About Lily Cunningham

Lily J Cunningham headshot My name is Lily Cunningham, and I write to cope with the realities we live in. I began posting my writings in May 2022, on Medium. My first piece was about coping skills, but I’ve kept a journal a good 30 years or more.

Now, I’m coping and sharing in a public way.

It’s hard to clearly state what I write about without sounding like I’m starting a cult or trying to be on a watchlist. The recurring themes are the increases in State violence and historical information; my own trauma narrative in the context of white supremacy; racist police violence; Ohio and national political trends.

My curiosity is my greatest strength.

It has completely shifted my way of thinking when I have an emotional reaction to something if I instead shift into curiosity mode. I stop to ask myself, “Why am I angry at this? Why am I so sure of something?”

My curiosity helps me observe patterns of individual and collective behavior patterns.

I started this website to connect with others, and to help them also connect to their own feelings about the current events in our shared environments. I’m writing for people most oppressed by systemic violence and individuals who understand domestic abuse. My writing is for people who are curious about self examination and ownership of their own experiences and behaviors.

I’m also writing for white people – like myself, who have an awareness of the injustices within our systems. And for people who have been abused by white, Christian norms and systems.

Honestly, I want white people to care about what’s going on, and to emotionally connect to why they should care. I want my white peers to seek deeper connection with those around them. And to ultimately divest away from white supremacy in their parenting, communication styles, language, etc.

I hope that by sharing my own experiences, my writing and this website can be the connector.
